June 2019: From the Editor

Hi all,

First of all, I’d like to welcome the new people who joined us after the Keto Pizza Demo!  Welcome, we hope to see you at more of our events.

This month the Eugene Chapter has our three regular events:

Plus I’ve included information about other issues and local events you might be interested in:

Hope to see you at some of our events and invite a friend!

This comes to us from the Weston A. Price Foundation:

A Friend of Vaccine Rights Continues to Need Your Urgent Help

https://www.westonaprice.org/a-friend-of-vaccine-rights-continues-to-need-your-urgent-help/

Recently we alerted you to the fact that vaccine rights attorney Alan Phillips spent time in jail for contempt of court because he refused to breach attorney-client privilege by providing the North Carolina State Bar with confidential client files.

Unfortunately, Mr. Philip’s situation has gotten worse.   He was sent back to jail for the third time on Tuesday, May 21 – where he still resides. He has also had his license to practice law suspended.

Mr. Phillips is a nationally recognized expert and presenter on vaccine policy and law. He is the nation’s only attorney whose practice is focused solely on vaccine exemptions and legislative activism.

For at least the past two years, the North Carolina Bar has been investigating Mr. Phillips; unable to identify any evidence of wrongdoing, the Bar has nevertheless filed a lawsuit against Mr. Phillips in an unjustified attempt to revoke his license to practice law.

It is our understanding that Mr. Phillips has filed several complaints, requesting that an independent review look into the State Bar’s actions in this matter, yet his grievances have been dismissed.

We can only assume Mr. Phillips is being harassed because of his chosen specialty – vaccine law.

Will you please help our friend today?

TAKE ACTION:

1)     Contact North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and ask him to initiate an independent investigation into the North Carolina State Bar’s misconduct.

You can call the Governor at 919-814-2000 or 800-662-7952 or email him via this online form: https://governor.nc.gov/contact/contact-governor-cooper

Please note that calls are more effective than emails.

(Donations to his legal defense fund through https://barwatchonline.org/donations/ have been temporarily halted)

  • Sign this letter of support for attorney Alan Philips.

May 2019: From the Editor

Hi all,

Here is a rundown of what is happening this month.

Local people are continuing to go up to Salem this week to let Reps and Senators know how we feel about HB 3063.  If you would like to find out more, contact Stacey at the number below:

Action Alert: HB 3063 has passed Ways & Means Committee

Dear Friends,

Since I wrote you last, HB 3063 has advanced through the Ways and Means Committee and it only has two votes left, one in the full house and one in the full senate. You will not have a vote.  We are running out of time.  It is expected to pass in two weeks.  We need you, now, to take a stand against this bill loudly and boldly.  We need more people to help us turn the ship around. If good people do nothing it will pass.

We need 15 no votes in the Senate and right now we have 13.  Our three Eugene area senators can collectively stop this bill.

HB 3063 will take away a parent’s right to delay, space out, or skip even ONE vaccine if they want their child to attend daycare, preschool, or any K-12 public or private school in Oregon.

This bill promotes fear and hate.  It takes away a child’s access to a free and equitable education.  It segregates them. It is coercive and it prohibits informed consent.  This bill is too extreme.

The truth is that Oregon has high vaccination rates, above 95% of school children in Oregon are fully vaccinated.  Those numbers have been consistently high for many years. Only 2.6% of school children are unvaccinated.

You can be pro-vaccine and be against this bill.  I wholeheartedly care about personal and public health.  There are many more positive ways our state can cultivate improved personal and public health.

Here are three things you can help:

  1. Please forward this email to all of your friends and family members who might care.
  2. Every one of your voices needs to be heard!  Call your State Senator and tell them that you are their constituent and you want them to oppose HB 3063.  If you are a democrat please let them know that too. The Senators for the Eugene area are:
  • Floyd Prozanski  503-986-1704
  • Lee Beyer  503-986-1706
  • James Manning 503-986-1707

3.  Write a letter to your editor, do you know someone in the media who might be willing to do a piece on this, who in your network might be able to help us get the word out about this fast moving legislation?

If you don’t know who your Senator is you can easily find out by clicking on this link and entering your address:https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/FindYourLegislator/leg-districts-mobile_new.htm

(Even if you plan to homeschool or move if this bill passes.  Call your Senator and let them know you will not be coerced into making medical decisions and that you want them to oppose HB 3063.)

Feel free to reach out for more information or support.

Sincerely,

Stacey Black

Don’t miss this screening of Generation Zapped in Oregon! An eye-opening documentary examines possible health risks of wireless technology by asking the following questions:

What does medical science tell us about the possible health risks of cellphones, wireless devices, smart meters, and Wi-Fi? How can I protect my family? How can the agencies tasked with protecting us, fail to do so, and be unwilling to update arbitrary standards? Why is Wi-Fi in public schools? Why hasn’t any of it, including the new 5G technology popping up on telephone poles in your neighborhood, had proper pre-market testing?

Do we know true costs of living in a wireless age?

Hope to see you there!

April 4: HB 3063 info night

This comes to us from a local Eugene-area person working on this issue. We are including it here as a service to our members.

Time sensitive info and heartfelt request

Dear Friends,

I would like to alert you to a serious bill and ask you to help spread the word about it.

HB 3063 will take away a parent’s right to delay, space out, or skip even one vaccine if they want their child to attend daycare, preschool, or any K-12 public or private school in Oregon.

Additionally, a child who has not received every shot on the Oregon list will not be allowed to go to watch a high school soccer game, see a school concert, or play on a school playground or field with other children.

You can be 100% pro vaccine and still be against this bill.

There is an information night to learn more about the bill:

Thursday, April 4th
6:00 – 8:00 PM
4330 Willamette St.

Here are three simple ways you can help:

1. Please forward this email to any of your friends and family who might care. (We are especially trying to reach parents at the Village School, Eugene Waldorf School, The Family School, Far Horizons Montessori, The Chinese Immersion School, Nature Discovery School in Eugene, A3, Sahara Children’s School, Camas Ridge Community Elementary School, Auntie Nica’s, Patterson Preschool, Foundations Montessori Preschool, Dancing Sol, The Toy Box, and Hazelwood House.)

2. Come to the info night, put it into your calendar.

3. Every one of your voices needs to be heard! Call your State Senator and tell them that you are their constituent and you want them to oppose HB 3063. The Senators for the Eugene area are:

Floyd Prozanski 503-986-1704

*Even if you plan to homeschool if this bill passes. Call your Senator and let them know you will not be coerced into making medical decisions and that you want them to oppose HB 3063.*

There is a very real possibility of this bill passing. Our three local Senators could stop it. Feel free to reach out for more information or support.

April 26: DVD – Vaccines, Autoimmunity & Changing Nature of Childhood Disease

Dr. Cowan is a popular speaker at Wise Traditions conferences and if you have never had the opportunity to hear him speak I highly recommend it. His talks defy easy description, combining medical knowledge and anthroposophy, with an entertaining story-telling style.  Come see for yourself!

by Thomas Cowan MDTom Cowan, MD

Recorded at the Wise Traditions 2018 Conference

Friday, April 26, 2019

DVD begins at 6:00 PM
(68 min.)

Location:

Natural Grocers
201 Coburg Road
Eugene, OR 97401

Description:

This presentation offers an overview of the healing nature of fever and childhood illnesses, and the role that intracellular water plays in the healing process. Dr Cowan addresses the rise in autoimmune disease and other chronic diseases, and how the immune system responds to vaccines versus wild disease. Then he looks at the tragic consequences of policies designed to thwart these natural processes.

One Doctor’s Surprising Answer to the Epidemic of Autoimmunity and Chronic Disease

Over the past fifty years, rates of autoimmunity and chronic disease have exploded: currently 1 in 2.5 American children has an allergy, 1 in 11 has asthma, 1 in 13 has severe food allergies, and 1 in 36 has autism. While some attribute this rise to increased awareness and diagnosis, Thomas Cowan, MD, argues for a direct causal relationship to a corresponding increase in the number of vaccines American children typically receive―approximately 70 vaccine doses by age eighteen. The goal of these vaccines is precisely what we’re now seeing in such abundance among our chronically ill children: the provocation of immune response.

Dr. Cowan looks at emerging evidence that certain childhood illnesses are actually protective of disease later in life; examines the role of fever, the gut, and cellular fluid in immune health; argues that vaccination is an ineffective (and harmful) attempt to shortcut a complex immune response; and asserts that the medical establishment has engaged in an authoritarian argument that robs parents of informed consent. His ultimate question, from the point of view of a doctor who has decades of experience treating countless children is: What are we really doing to children when we vaccinate them?

Tom Cowan, MD, is a holistic physician in private practice in San Francisco. He is the author of Human Heart, Cosmic Heart; Vaccines, Autoimmunity & Changing Nature of Childhood Disease; The Fourfold Path to Healing; and co-author of The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby & Child Care.

Consequently, there will be no potluck in March.

We are waiting on confirmation for the Keto Support Group and DVD.

Upcoming Event dates (as it stands right now):

I’ll update information here as it becomes available and send out an email when we have dates confirmed.

I hope you all enjoyed the snow.  Stay tuned for more info!

February 2019: From the Editor

Hi all,

We just got another wonderful compliment from a Chapter Leader outside the area about the Eugene Chapter website:

Lisa, your website looks FABULOUS!!!!! It’s fantastic. So user friendly. So rich in resources and information, above and beyond! You’re pretty incredible! Your members must be so thrilled and in awe of you and your work on their behalf. Your site covers EVERY single foodie question for Real Food Kitchens. Thanks for all you do, and especially listing all the local sources of clean food.

Have you checked out our website?  Did you know that this little old newsletter is followed by Weston A. Price Chapter Leaders in other states?  I didn’t.  Did you know that we have a website that is admired by other Chapter Leaders?  This one went so far as to copy much of the text that I had written and some of the photos onto their own website!  Well, they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!  So, I guess I am flattered.

The information on our website is there for YOU, our local readers! Here are a few of our pages you might want to view:

An Apology:

I don’t know what happened, but somewhere between what I submitted and what Natural Grocers published, the time of the January DVD got changed from 6:30 to 6:00.  We are very sorry to anyone who missed some of the DVD because of the confusion about the start time.  If you would like, we can show the first half hour again sometime.  Let us know.

From now on the DVDs will start at 6:00.

This comes to us from a local Eugene Chapter, WAPF member.  If you are currently on Medicare, or may be sometime in the future, please encourage Medicare to expand it’s coverage of natural therapies:

Medicare is Seeking Public Comments on National Coverage of Acupuncture Treatment

Hi everyone, Please pass this to as many people you know who have, or do use acupuncture, to comment. Medicare is terrible about not allowing any natural medicine, so we have a chance to get them moving here.

The coverage being proposed is going to initially be only for low back pain. But it’s a foot in the door, so if you think medicare should cover acupuncture please submit even a single sentence comment by February 14.
I just did!

Public Comment Period: 01/15/2019 – 02/14/2019

Dear Acupuncture patients and future acupuncture patients,

We are in very exciting times. Acupuncture is gaining more and more well deserved popularity and mainstream acceptance. Expanded coverage through Medicare and insurance can make acupuncture more accessible to more people. But to make this a reality we need to make our voices heard. We have an opportunity to do just that! The process of this potential change begins with a “30 day public comment period’ where we have the chance to show how many people are wanting coverage for their acupuncture treatments.

Some suggestions for leaving comments:

  1. You can leave a comment by telling your story of how acupuncture treatment by a licensed acupuncturist has helped relieve your pain.
  2. You can leave a comment stating that the total cost of acupuncture by a licensed acupuncturist is much less than current conventional treatment which is covered by your insurance.
  3. You can simply say that acupuncture treatment helped you and you support Medicare coverage.

Please go to the link below and show your support for acupuncture coverage. National Coverage Analysis (NCA) Tracking Sheet for Acupuncture for Chronic Low Back Pain (CAG-00452N)

National Coverage Analysis (NCA) Tracking Sheet for Acupuncture for Chronic Low Back Pain (CAG-00452N)

Acupuncture is a technique in which practitioners stimulate specific points on the body, most often by inserting thin needles through the skin. Gary Taubes Interview

This comes to us from Mindy Stone, a local Eugene Chapter participant who was invited to join a panel on CureTalks with Gary Taubes!  If you missed it live, you can still listen to the recording.

Eat more and pile on weight. Eat less and loose weight. Or is it that simple? HOW and WHAT should we eat to stay fit and stay away from obesity? We are talking to investigative science & health Journalist and co-founder of the non-profit Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI.org) Gary Taubes, to discuss the relationship of Obesity with different kinds of Calories, the current state of nutrition research, and mull over some controversial concepts in nutrition science. Mr Gary Taubes is a recipient of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Investigator Award in Health Policy Research.

Mindy Stone, who grew up fighting a weight problem from age 11 and found success with the Ketogenic diet will join us on the panel. Mindy hosts a Keto Support group in Florence, Oregon and is passionate about food politics and how it controls what we eat. This journey has inspired her to create “Training Wheels to Health” a coaching business to help others get off highly processed foods and onto a whole foods way of eating.

Sorry, no Potluck in September

We lost our volunteer potluck coordinator, so no one scheduled a potluck this month.

Can you volunteer a little of your time to help make the Eugene Chapter run smoothly? I have talked with people who are willing to be speakers, we just need someone to set it up. Let me know!

Volunteers Still Welcome

We just lost one of our volunteers and are in need of someone who can take over some of the tasks she was doing.

A few specific tasks that are still under-supported are:

  • Make fliers for Potlucks and DVDs (we have a template)

We are pleased to announce a new creation by the Eugene Chapter, Weston A. Price Foundation. We are starting a Keto Support Group, for those following a ketogenic lifestyle or wanting to learn more about it.

Date:

Monday, September 24, 2018

6:00 PM

Location:

Natural Grocers
201 Coburg Road
Eugene, OR 97401
www.naturalgrocers.com/store-location/eugene

Topic:

For this first meeting we will discuss a brief overview of what a ketogenic diet is. And since this is a Eugene Chapter, Weston A. Price event we will then delve into how to combine Wise Traditions principles with a ketogenic diet. We will always support using real foods and traditional food principles for your ketogenic journey (what I call being a “Wise Traditions Ketonian”). And finally we will discuss the format for this meeting and where you would like the group to go in upcoming months.

I would also like to choose our regular meeting day/time. If you are interested in attending on a regular basis, but cannot attend this event, please email us with feedback for choosing a day and time.

Description:

Ready to incorporate more nourishing animal fats from pastured animals? Becca has rendered thousands of pounds of fat from animals in a variety of ways. When you find out how easy it is to do and the benefits it offers, you’ll be begging your farmers to save some of the extras for you! You’ll learn the most efficient ways to render the most fat along with the edible and non-edible uses that each kind of fat provides!

Becca Griffith is a longtime food educator, foraging enthusiast, experimenter and food and history tour guide in the Twin Cities. She also serves as a WAPF co-chapter leader in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area.

Becca first discovered her zeal for the time-honored cooking practices when confronting her own health challenges in college. Growing up, she had a complicated relationship with the ‘F-words’, but now wholeheartedly embraces foods, fat and foraging. Through her ongoing food adventures, Becca has created her own quirky, but memorable, methods to share with others when using the bounty of nourishment surrounding them!

Cost: Free (Donations requested)

Donations of any amounts to the Eugene Chapter, Weston A. Price Foundation are appreciated.
$5-10 suggested for those who can afford it, and $1-4 for low-income.
(Please also volunteer to help the Eugene Chapter).

September 30, 2018: ONE-DAY ONLY Plastic Recycling Event

Now, for one day only, Lane County will accept plastics numbers 2, 4 and 5!

I don’t know about you, but I was very disappointed when Lane County announced that they will no longer accept plastics for recycling. I’ve got piles of bottles and tubs that I plan to take in.

When: September 30, 2018
Where: Glenwood Transfer Station at 3100 E. 17th Ave.
What: Free Plastics Roundup

Here’s an article from the Register Guard:

Unrecyclable plastic piling up? Lane County will hold collection event Sept. 30

Don’t throw away those yogurt containers just yet. Instead, save them and other plastics — the ones that can no longer go in curbside recycling — for an upcoming collection event.

Lane County Waste Management will host a free plastics roundup on Sept. 30 at the Glenwood Transfer Station at 3100 E. 17th Ave., said Angie Marzano, county waste reduction specialist. The county will take in plastics numbers 2, 4 and 5, as long as the plastics have been cleaned. Accepted plastics include yogurt, cottage cheese and margarine containers.

The event comes in response to recycling changes earlier this year that were prompted by shifting international markets, according to the county. The collected plastics will go to Denton Plastics in Portland, which plans to recycle them into park benches, decking, flower pots, electronic components and other items.
