Recommended Reading

There are so many wonderful books that we would like to recommend!

Many of us started this path after reading Nourishing Traditions.  The first 60 pages are a wonderful introduction to the Weston A. Price Foundation principles, and the remainder contains many practical recipes.

Eugene Chapter leaders and members recommend the following books as good places to start:

Essentials:

Understanding Fats and Carbohydrates:

Great Recipes:

History and Politics of Raw Milk:

Fermentation:

Tooth Care:

Heart Disease:

The Ethics, Health Effects and Environmental Cost of Eating Meat vs. Grains

A GMO primer:

Digestion and Total Health

Babies and Children:

  • The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby and Child Care by Sally Fallon Morell & Thomas S. Cowan, MD
  • Super Nutrition for Babies by Katherine Erlich, MD & Kelly Genzlinger, CNC, CMTA

And of course the book that started it all:

Purchase Books from the Eugene Chapter:
The Eugene Chapter carries a few copies of these titles and has them available at cooking classes, and many of our local events.  We have been carrying: Healthy 4 Life, Nourishing Traditions, The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby and Child Care, Super Nutrition for Babies, Gut and Psychology Syndrome, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Fermenting Foods, GAPS Guide, Internal Bliss, Cure Tooth Decay, The Untold Story of Milk, and The Whole Soy Story.  Contact us to see if we have a particular title in stock. Click here for more information about books sold by the Eugene Chapter.

Borrow from the Eugene Public Library:
We have been recommending many of these titles to the Eugene Public Library, and they now has some available.

I created a list of books that were available at the library in the Newsletter – January 2009 (but keep in mind that this list was created in 2009, and may be out of date.  Hopefully the Eugene Public Library now carries even more great titles.  Keep asking for them!).
