Free guided traditional foods class until Aug 13, 2016

This comes to us from the Weston A. Price Foundation (our parent organization).  I just got the email, and it says that it “starts” on August 1st, but there is still time to get all of the information.  Just sign up now, before Aug 13, 2016.

Overwhelmed by “traditional cooking”? If you’re just getting started or have been struggling along, the idea of lacto-fermenting stuff or making bread from sourdough starter can be intimidating. (And if you’re dependent on any processed foods, breaking up can be difficult!)

But traditional foods don’t have to be difficult or stressful. You can start right where you are — and follow in the footsteps of people who have been where you are.

Starting August 1st, Laurie Smith and Jamie Fiene — longtime Weston A. Price chapter leaders and food activists with 60 years of combined teaching experience — are leading a FREE guided online class that will give you the clear strategy and the tools you need to transition to a traditional food table, simply and peacefully.

This online class is called PROCESSED FOODS TO REAL FOODS.  And if you’ve been struggling to make this traditional food thing work, this is the class you’ve been waiting for.

You can sign up right now, free, by clicking this link:  https://ea281.isrefer.com/go/P2RF/WestonAPrice/ .

Frequently Asked Questions:

  1. Where and when is this class? Answer: Online! It starts on August 1st and you can take it at your own pace (with help from Laurie and Jamie, of course.)
  2. How do I get access to class materials! Answer: All materials will be delivered directly to the email you sign up with, and you will be able to interact directly with your teachers and your classmates via an online discussion group. What fun!
  3. How much does it cost? Answer: Free. No money. Absolutely costless.
  4. Do I need a big budget and fancy foods to complete this class? Answer: Absolutely NOT. Unlike many other classes, this class is focused on helping you to bloom where YOU are planted, with the resources and budget available to YOU. No guilt allowed.

Because this class is personally guided by Laurie and Jamie, it only opens a few times a year. And it’s open now for a short time. You can be a part of it.

Just click HERE: https://ea281.isrefer.com/go/P2RF/WestonAPrice/

Whatever your situation, this class makes traditional foods doable. Don’t miss it.

We hope you will support the Weston A. Price Foundation in its efforts to restore nutrient-dense foods to the human diet through education, research and activism. westonaprice.org

Dear Friends of the Weston A. Price Foundation,

Two weeks ago we announced our fundraising drive, with a goal of $100,000.  I am happy to report that after just two weeks, we have achieved half our goal!image003

But we still have a ways to go.  We welcome donations of any size and would love to say that 100 percent of our members participated.

Do you find our extensive website useful?  Do you enjoy our presence on Facebook and other social media sites?  Have you or members of your family benefited from our nutrition information?

Then please support our work with a donation.  Just go to www.westonaprice.org/donate to donate online. You may also phone the office or send a check.

What could be more important than helping parents bringing healthy babies into the world, and helping children grow up healthy and happy in a toxic world.

Thank you in advance for your support!

Michael Schmidt and his efforts to bring fresh, clean raw milk to Canadians continues

This is another message that comes to us from the Weston A. Price Foundation.  Michael Schmidt is a farmer in Canada who has spoken eloquently and passionately at several Wise Traditions Conferences.

Dear Members of WAPF:

Biodynamic farmer, Michael Schmidt in Canada, needs help now!

For over 22 years, Michael has been valiantly working to bring fresh, clean raw milk to Canadians. Through years of government harassment, Michael has persevered. Now, the Canadian government is attempting to shut down his farm by their continued criminalization of the herd share at Glencolton farms—this time by targeting the consumer community. Michael, Elisa and the herdshare members have mounted a legal defense but it is costly and the Glencolton community needs help from the external community of those who support organic farming, biodynamic farming, GMO free foods and other community-based food initiatives. We are hoping that we will have a favourable outcome that brings a precedent that creates more food freedom across the US and Canada. Please see letter from Michael and Elisa below.

For additional information and background on the case, this site has comprehensive coverage of the cases and actions against food freedom related to Glencolton Farms. https://thebovine.wordpress.com/the-michael-schmidt-story/

Take action:

Letter from Michael Schmidt and Elisa Vander Hout

June 2016

Dear Supporters,

By now you must know that Government is very serious to shut down any attempts of people to make an informed choice about their milk, their food and their individual relationship to their farmer and farmer to their shareholders.

This battle is going on for me now over 22 years. I have been in and out of court so many times that it is impossible to even count. Endless nights are spent on formulating defense, filing papers, responding to new threats.

Our farm has been the focus of at least 3 major raids with up to 25 armed officers.

I have fines of over 100 000 dollars hanging over my head, got a jail sentence in BC for helping a raw milk farm there.

We are now in our last round. There is so much at stake that we at Glencolton Farms might as well pack it in unless supporters of food freedom understand that we cannot do it alone.

We are willing to fight. But we are not willing to worry 24 hours a day how to pay the lawyer to defend that last action.

We keep shelving out money, some money comes in from some members and a trickle here and there from other farmers.  That is NOT enough.

We are not able to continue this fight unless we know that everyone will do ALL you can to raise legal funds.

We don’t have the money either, but we have to keep paying and paying and paying out of our last resources.

We are asking all our supporters and all those who want food freedom to please step up:

10 dollars a week, or 50 dollars a month or 500 dollars in one shot.

Unless we raise these funds we will have absolutely no chance of succeeding.

So we might as well pack it in now put a for sale sign up and look back in 10 years how we have miserably failed to bring about positive change.

Thank you for your support. It is through a true community and through our efforts together that we will succeed. https://www.gofundme.com/foodrights

The time is now

VACCINES: ARE THEY SAFE AND EFFECTIVE?
FACT-BASED and SCIENCE-BASED VIDEO

VACCINES:  Are They Safe and Effective?
Is there another choice for immunization we haven’t heard about?
With rising interest in vaccination options, HP Worldwide Choice recently produced a “Best of” compilation video, which gives an excellent overview of the topic in less than 45 minutes. Parts 1 and 2 compare the safety and efficacy of vaccines with this “new” method of disease prevention known as HomeoProphylaxis (HP), while Part 3 talks about the immune system in a new light–explaining why it’s really our BEST bet for disease prevention and why a WHOLE FOOD diet as WAPF recommends is so necessary!

Click on the link to watch the video at no charge through May 1st.  After that it will be available for just $9.95. And please share. It turns out there are other, better alternatives we should be looking at.  Know any new or expecting parents?  Why not share this fact-based, science based video with them?  It could spare them a lot of anguish. If you’d like to purchase any of the full length conference videos, just type NUREMBERG into the Promo Code box and get any of them for just $14.95 or the whole set for just $125.

That’s what people are saying about the WAPF podcast! Every week a 30-minute episode is released. You will hear from health professionals, farmers (like Joel Salatin), doctors (like Natasha Campbell McBride), and Sally Fallon Morell, the president of the Weston A. Price Foundation. Look for Wise Traditions on iTunes and Stitcher and on the westonaprice.org website! You’re going to love it!

Here are some guest quotes from recent Wise Traditions podcast episodes:
Vaccines: what’s all the fuss about? (Part 1) “Right now if an adult follows the CDC vaccination schedule, they will get 91 doses of vaccines between 18 and 80. The national adult immunization plan would identify adults who are not complying to push the vaccines that are coming. It verges on a police state. This is medical tyranny,“ Leslie Manookian, documentary filmmaker, The Greater Good.
The marvelous bigness of pigs “If we treat animals like bunches of protoplasm to be manipulated then it’s not a stretch to start looking at other people the same way and at foreign cultures, too,” Joel Salatin, speaker and author, Polyface Farm.
PODCAST POSTCARD: Would you help us get the word out about our helpful and enjoyable weekly podcast? A Tribute to Mae-Wan Ho

We are saddened to announce the passing of Dr. Mae-Wan Ho of London, UK, who has contributed to the Wise Traditions journal and once gave the keynote address at the Wise Traditions conference.

Mae-Wan was an amazing person and, as we all know, a great champion in the anti-GM campaign.  Despite her frail appearance, she had tremendous energy and accomplished much with seemingly little effort.  She wrote books, articles and scientific papers, and gave lectures around the world.  Sometimes she travelled to China with her husband, Prof Peter Saunders to view a project of interest, to see whether it could have an effect elsewhere.  She initiated conferences and petitions that brought awareness of important issues such as GM, sustainable agriculture and sustainable energy production to the attention of various authorities.

Subscribers to the magazine Science in Society (SiS) of the Institute of Science in Society (ISIS), of which she was a founder (with Peter) and Director, became aware of her illness when a notice of termination of ISIS and hence of the magazine was announced on 24 February: “It is with great sadness that the Institute of Science in Society is to cease operation at the end of March 2016 on account of serious illness of our Director Dr Mae-Wan Ho.”   Even during the last months of her life, when she was very ill, she continued writing for ISIS.  Her last contribution, which appears on the ISIS website (i-sis.org.uk) is dated 3 March–just three weeks before she died.  The subject of that last entry, “Unifying Quantum Mechanics and General Relativity,” testifies to fearlessness not only of meeting opponents head-on but also in tackling subjects outside her normal realm of genetics.  .

We shall indeed miss Mae-Wan, and our thoughts go out to Peter and her son and her brother, who were with her in the last weeks of her life.

RAW MILK IN THE NEWS

Raw Milk Could be Legal in Canada with your Support
Raw milk advocates in Canada have created a petition to ask their government to legalize availability of raw milk. In the petition, they state facts about raw milk and conclude with their request.

“We, the undersigned, Citizens of Canada, call upon the Minister of Health to Modernize and amend the Food and Drugs Act and the corresponding Food and Drug Regulations, to permit the legal sale of, and/or access to, raw (i.e. unpasteurized) milk and milk products through small scale certified herd share programs, or other such suitable arrangements, capable of managing any associated health risks in a responsible and reasonable manner.”
Currently, raw milk is completely illegal in Canada even if obtained through cowshares or herdshares. If this petition reaches 500 valid signatures of Canadians by its deadline on August 11, 2016, the petition will be presented in the House of Commons. Once presented, the government is required to respond within 45 days. Of course, we want to far exceed the minimum requirement.
ACTION TO TAKE
2. Using email or social media, spread the word and ask others to sign it. Sample wording below.

Canadian citizens are petitioning their government to create meaningful dialogue about raw milk availability. Please sign this petition and ask others to do the same. You do not need to be a raw milk drinker or even a supporter to sign this petition. This is about our rights as citizens to choose the foods of our choice from the producer of our choice.

Share Your Experience with Traditional Foods

Here’s an interesting request I received. Would you like to share the story of your experience with traditional foods? Sounds like a great idea! We keep complaining that no one is gathering the data. Well here someone is!

Hello OR chapter leaders!

As believers in the work of Dr. Weston A. Price, we (Gena & Johanna) are collaborating on a research project that we hope will illuminate the wonderful outcomes for health experienced by those who follow a traditional diet.

Our project is in the form of an online website, so please take a look at  growingsuccessstories.org.  This project is designed to collect data that can be used for further research.  We are building an ongoing resource of narratives by real people to help demonstrate the power of healing foods.

Won’t you please pass this letter along to your email list or post on your group list-serve?

We ask that you take the time to share your own story and submit it via our site.

We only need 4 short paragraphs.

Just the highlights, what is important to you, how you first discovered this way of sourcing, preparing and consuming food.  Please know that when you submit a story you can choose to keep your name confidential if desired.  We are not intending on publishing every story, but archiving all stories into categories, again, to create an ongoing, dynamic collection for future research.

This project began because of a vision that is at the core of Johanna’s current doctoral program with CIIS (California Institute of Integral Studies). As an advanced holistic nurse who has worked in the hospital setting with kids and teens suffering from mental illness, she experienced first hand how little our current medical system recognized the importance of a real food diet and belly health in the recovery of these disorders. And then she read the stories that we are all aware of in the Healthy Baby Gallery.  She literally cried tears of joy, as she recognized that our next generation stood a chance, if only …  She then trained with Dr. Natasha and introduces these concepts  in a course on holistic health for nurses.  Gena is the Boston, MA chapter leader and co-collaborator on this project.

Growing Success Stories welcomes all stories, from mothers, college students, 20 somethings, the middle aged, and the elderly.

We thank you, from our whole hearts, in advance, for the gracious offering of your time and energy in getting this project off the ground.

DARK Act Filed in the Senate – Call ASAP!

The DARK Act would prohibit state labeling of GMOs. Please take a moment to call our senators.  Oregon Senators are:

Merkley, Jeff – (D – OR)     Class II
313 Hart Senate Office Building Washington DC 20510
(202) 224-3753
Contact: www.merkley.senate.gov/contact/

Wyden, Ron – (D – OR)     Class III
221 Dirksen Senate Office Building Washington DC 20510
(202) 224-5244
Contact: www.wyden.senate.gov/contact/

This comes to us from The Weston A. Price Foundation. I am passing it on here to those of you who are not already members in WAPF.

DARK Act filed in the Senate – call now!

Senator Roberts (R-KS) just filed Monsanto’s dream bill, also known as the DARK Act, to prohibit state labeling of genetically engineered (GMO) foods.

Ask your Senators to oppose this bill and any attempt to prohibit labeling of GMO foods!

Even if you’ve already taken action, it’s really important that your Senators hear from you again now that the bill has been introduced.

Senator Roberts is the Chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, and he’s already scheduled his bill to get a hearing in the committee this Thursday.

Time is of the essence. The same bill already passed through the House in July, so we must stop it in the Senate.  Your Senators need to hear from you now: To protect your right to know what is in your food, tell your Senators to oppose the bill, or any “compromises” that don’t result in mandatory, on-package labeling of GMOs.

There’s a reason why we call the bill that passed the House last summer the Deny Americans the Right to Know Act (DARK Act).  This bill would prohibit any state from labeling GMOs and make federal labeling voluntary – which, to be clear, it already is, and not a single product is labeled as containing genetically engineered ingredients.

Tell your Senators that voluntary labels don’t work, and they must reject the DARK Act.

Take Action

Call or email both of your U.S. Senators to urge them to oppose Senator Robert’s bill or any bill that blocks mandatory, on-package labeling of GMOs.

You can look up who your Senators are and find their contact information:

Here’s a sample script for a call:

Hi, my name is ___, and I am a constituent. I urge Senator _____ to vote against Senator Roberts’ bill that would prevent states from requiring labels on genetically engineered foods.

We have a right to know what is in our food so that we can make educated decisions about the food we eat. The free market can only work when consumers have the information they need to make informed choices among different products.  The simplest, clearest way to provide information to consumers is with a physical label (not bar codes or other confusing options).

Without mandatory on-package labeling, consumers are effectively being defrauded.

I urge Senator ___ to vote against any bill that would block state laws for mandatory physical labels on GMO foods.

A phone call is more effective than an email. If you do send an email, please replace the opening few lines with your own personalized message – personal messages have more impact than form emails.

You can also download a fact sheet on the House version of the bill at http://farmandranchfreedom.org/hr-1599-fact-sheet to send as an attachment to your email, or as a follow up to your call.
