February 2019: From the Editor

Hi all,

We just got another wonderful compliment from a Chapter Leader outside the area about the Eugene Chapter website:

Lisa, your website looks FABULOUS!!!!! It’s fantastic. So user friendly. So rich in resources and information, above and beyond! You’re pretty incredible! Your members must be so thrilled and in awe of you and your work on their behalf. Your site covers EVERY single foodie question for Real Food Kitchens. Thanks for all you do, and especially listing all the local sources of clean food.

Have you checked out our website?  Did you know that this little old newsletter is followed by Weston A. Price Chapter Leaders in other states?  I didn’t.  Did you know that we have a website that is admired by other Chapter Leaders?  This one went so far as to copy much of the text that I had written and some of the photos onto their own website!  Well, they say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!  So, I guess I am flattered.

The information on our website is there for YOU, our local readers! Here are a few of our pages you might want to view:

An Apology:

I don’t know what happened, but somewhere between what I submitted and what Natural Grocers published, the time of the January DVD got changed from 6:30 to 6:00.  We are very sorry to anyone who missed some of the DVD because of the confusion about the start time.  If you would like, we can show the first half hour again sometime.  Let us know.

From now on the DVDs will start at 6:00.

This comes to us from a local Eugene Chapter, WAPF member.  If you are currently on Medicare, or may be sometime in the future, please encourage Medicare to expand it’s coverage of natural therapies:

Medicare is Seeking Public Comments on National Coverage of Acupuncture Treatment

Hi everyone, Please pass this to as many people you know who have, or do use acupuncture, to comment. Medicare is terrible about not allowing any natural medicine, so we have a chance to get them moving here.

The coverage being proposed is going to initially be only for low back pain. But it’s a foot in the door, so if you think medicare should cover acupuncture please submit even a single sentence comment by February 14.
I just did!

Public Comment Period: 01/15/2019 – 02/14/2019

Dear Acupuncture patients and future acupuncture patients,

We are in very exciting times. Acupuncture is gaining more and more well deserved popularity and mainstream acceptance. Expanded coverage through Medicare and insurance can make acupuncture more accessible to more people. But to make this a reality we need to make our voices heard. We have an opportunity to do just that! The process of this potential change begins with a “30 day public comment period’ where we have the chance to show how many people are wanting coverage for their acupuncture treatments.

Some suggestions for leaving comments:

  1. You can leave a comment by telling your story of how acupuncture treatment by a licensed acupuncturist has helped relieve your pain.
  2. You can leave a comment stating that the total cost of acupuncture by a licensed acupuncturist is much less than current conventional treatment which is covered by your insurance.
  3. You can simply say that acupuncture treatment helped you and you support Medicare coverage.

Please go to the link below and show your support for acupuncture coverage. National Coverage Analysis (NCA) Tracking Sheet for Acupuncture for Chronic Low Back Pain (CAG-00452N)

National Coverage Analysis (NCA) Tracking Sheet for Acupuncture for Chronic Low Back Pain (CAG-00452N)

Acupuncture is a technique in which practitioners stimulate specific points on the body, most often by inserting thin needles through the skin. It may be used to alleviate pain and to treat various physical, mental and emotional conditions. Low back pain is a common condition affecting many individuals at some point in their lives.
