Handcrafts & Tea with WAPF

This is a new type of event.  The purpose is to give us all a chance to visit and get to know each other better in a relaxed atmosphere.  I call it one part relaxation, one part art therapy and two parts community building.  We will provide a space for local Eugene Chapter people to get together drink tea, talk and do something with our hands.  You don’t have to be artsy.  It is not about making anything it is about the experience of being together with time to get to know each other and make new friends.

Have you ever wanted to spend more time getting to know all the interesting people you meet at a Eugene Chapter potluck?  Have you ever wanted to hang out with people who share your interest in traditional food?  Have you ever wanted to drink tea, make arts & crafts and visit with like-minded friends?

I have.  So I created an evening for just such an event.  Please join me:

Tuesday, January 28, 2020
6:00 – 8:00 PM

Location:

Natural Grocers
201 Coburg Road
Eugene, OR 97401

Bring:

Nothing is required. I’ll bring adult coloring pages and markers, herbal tea and conversation!

If you want, please bring your crochet, knitting, doodling and drawing supplies or any other art supplies (that you can carry and clean up).  You don’t have to feel artistic, just have fun.

Topic:

Our topics will be anything we want to discuss!  We will check in with those of you who made tallow balm at our last demo and see if anyone has any questions.  Anything in the Food, Farming and Healing Arts arena is fair game.

Children and guests are welcome.

See you there!

She will also discuss gluten free sourdough options and where to find those resources, and why eating plenty of saturated animal fats (with or without bread) is important for our wise traditions.

As a special bonus, we will check-in with Lisa, who will be sending us live video from the 20th Anniversary Wise Traditions Conference in Dallas, TX.

Location:

Natural Grocers

Topic: The Benefits of Dietary Cholesterol

In our modern world, cholesterol has become almost a swear word. Thanks to the promoters of the diet-heart hypothesis, everybody “knows” that cholesterol is “evil” and has to be fought at every turn. If you believe the popular media, you would think that there is simply no level of cholesterol low enough. Americans have been told to avoid eggs, cream and other high cholesterol foods in effort to lower their cholesterol.

The truth is that we humans cannot live without cholesterol. Come see why high cholesterol foods belong in your diet.

This is part of our introductory series.  Please bring a guest!

6:00 – 8:00 PM

Location:

Natural Grocers
201 Coburg Road

Topic: Traditional Diets include animal food

Wise Traditions Principle #2 – All traditional cultures consume some sort of animal food, such as fish and shellfish; land and water fowl; land and sea mammals; eggs; milk and milk products; reptiles; and insects. The whole animal is consumed—muscle meat, organs, bones and fat, with the organ meats and fats preferred.

We will discuss where, why and how to include animal foods in your traditional diet.  We have information on Local Butchers & Markets and our Farm List. This is part of our introductory series.  Please bring a guest!

2018 Steering Committee Meeting – In Review

We had our 2018 Steering Committee Meeting in January, and I am happy to say that we got another couple of great people who volunteered to help the Eugene Chapter, WAPF continue to function this year!

We still have a few tasks that were either not claimed or are still under-supported.  So if you would like to help out, please give us some idea where you would like to plug-in.

A few specific tasks that are still under-supported are:

  • Backup Newsletter Editor (who can make sure things go out in a timely manner when I am not able to)
  • Lookup DVD info for Newsletter
  • Host a food workshop at your home
  • Carry materials to and from events
  • Help with set up and clean up at events
  • Make sure we have a meat dish at each potluck
  • Post fliers around town to promote our events

If you would like more information about any of these, just let me know.  I would be happy to meet with any potential volunteers to discuss what you have to offer and how we can use your skills and energy.

See Get Involved! for more examples.

Oh yeah, and let us know what you would like to see the Eugene Chapter do this year.  What topics would you like to see demonstrated? What farms would you like to meet?  What else do you want from this group?  We want to know.

Thanks,

– Lisa
