Description:

The Story of Northstar Bison – #itsallaboutthegrass

I attended this talk in person at the last Wise Traditions Conference, and have to say I found it very moving and inspiring.  They are raising bison for meat to restore bison to the prairie.  They showed a movie with beautiful images of their bison, and their high commitment to the ethical treatment of the animals and the land.

Northstar Bison is a family owned and operated, vertically integrated enterprise, that was birthed in 1994 with the purchase of two young bison from Bluemound State Park in Minnesota, to fulfill a life-long dream. Shortly after, we added six bred cows which contributed to the growth of the herd to fourteen. During that time, we decided to market the meat directly and formed the distribution division. In pursuit of learning how to raise and produce the highest quality meat, we realized that 100% grass-fed bison was the best all-around-good for land, animals and people. This became our motto. Our primary commitment is to producing quality product and offering excellent customer service.

The Story of Northstar Bison – #itsallaboutthegrass

Today, we have 2500 acres of owned and rented grasslands in Northwest Wisconsin and East Central Minnesota, where 2000 bison are grazed under holistic resource management principles. In addition, we have developed very close working relationships with the ranchers in the upper Midwest who believe in the grass-fed production model and meet our criteria for raising this wonderful icon of the prairie.

“To keep the momentum rolling on our ambitious goal of surging the number of bison in North America to 1 Million, every Wednesday we want to encourage you to join us in eating something bison. Eating bison to save bison seems counter intuitive, right?? Simply put; Eating Bison is Voting for Bison. Demand for bison meat encourages private ranchers, native tribes and even parks across the country to stock and introduce more bison. Bison 1 Million is a beautiful give and take circle; one bison to sustain = many more bison to roam free. Just as it was 200 years ago. Join us. Eat Bison. Restore Bison.” @northstarbison

  • I knew it, but it didn’t impact me until I read about the upcoming event by Sally Fallon, Seniors: A Dumping Ground for Drugs. This is criminal. Target the trusting and unsuspecting.
