June 2018: From the Editor

Hi all,

I got an email from another farm to add to our Farm List:
Ted and Chrisie Cole say they have a farm/ homestead with a milk cow and pastured pork, chickens etc.  Making lard, and all the goods (541-915-5223).
They also said that neighbors are selling their home on 2 acres in Elmira and we are looking for neighbors who are interested in the like, and asked me to pass it on to you.  It is next to a 4 acre family homestead.  Here is a link to more info if you are interested:

Renea, a local Eugene Chapter participant and sourdough enthusiast, will be speaking on sourdough basics and how to get friendly with your starter, as well as einkorn wheat, sourdough sandwich breads, refrigerator starter vs countertop, and how much you don’t need to knead your dough.

She has been baking bread for a couple decades, and always had a taste for sourdough, but more recently began working with sourdough on the regular, when she found the Wise Traditions diet in 2015, and realized the significance of properly preparing grains…

What I Want: Clearly Labeled GMOs

What I Want: On-package text using the accepted terms “GE” or “GMO”, or an easily understood neutral symbol.

The USDA rule doesn’t even include many foods made from genetically engineered ingredients:
New forms of genetic engineering such as CRISPR (gene editing) and Synbio (Synthetic Biology) could be excluded. But consumers aren’t looking for information on what technique was used – they just want to know whether it was made with genetic engineering or not. And foods such as oranges, cacao, potatoes, soy, and canola are in development to be “bioengineered” using CRISPR technology….
