July 2010: From the Editor

Local Member Directory

We have made a change to the Local Member Directory. Up until now, it has been only for people who sell or produce food, health practitioners and the like. It is now it is open to any local members who have a product or service to offer other local people. This change is intended to help support local businesses of all kinds. In these uncertain economic times, wouldn’t you prefer to do business with other people who care about traditional and local food?

This means you! You do not need to be a member of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and the Eugene Chapter has no membership dues, so if you are reading this I consider you to be a “member” of our local WAPF community. You are welcome and encouraged to list your goods or service in our directory. We do this as a service to our community.

Potluck and Community Food Preparation Events Hosts

We have volunteers to host the next three potlucks. Make note of the upcoming dates:

  • July 12 at the home of Janet R.
  • August 9 at the home of Sara R.
  • September 13 at the home of Mark H.

I haven’t had any volunteers to host our next “Community Food Preparation Event ” so, who has a large kitchen or backyard table and would like to host an upcoming Community Event?

Whoever would like to host the potluck in October, or anyone who would like to host a Community Event, please let me know.

Food Exchange

Here is a new idea we are trying out. At the next potluck anyone who would like to participate is encouraged to bring one item of food that you have made or grown. This should be a small amount of food, something you would expect to pay approximately $5 for at a store. Preferably this is something that will keep for at least a week or two. Examples include:

  • Loaf of bread
  • Jar of fermented veggies
  • Bag of soaked (or sprouted) and dried nuts, seeds or grains
  • Jar of fermented veggies
  • Jar of rendered fat
  • etc.

At the potluck everyone who brought something will have the opportunity to trade with someone else.

Participation in this is optional. The purpose of this trade is to take advantage of each other’s different skills and interests. It is easier to make a little more of something you are doing already than to make another food from scratch. If you wish to bring more than the suggested $5 value, please package it in two containers, for two separate trades.
