Unrecyclable plastic piling up? Lane County will hold collection event Sept. 30
Don’t throw away those yogurt containers just yet. Instead, save them and other plastics — the ones that can no longer go in curbside recycling — for an upcoming collection event.
Lane County Waste Management will host a free plastics roundup on Sept. 30 at the Glenwood Transfer Station at 3100 E. 17th Ave., said Angie Marzano, county waste reduction specialist. The county will take in plastics numbers 2, 4 and 5, as long as the plastics have been cleaned. Accepted plastics include yogurt, cottage cheese and margarine containers.
The event comes in response to recycling changes earlier this year that were prompted by shifting international markets, according to the county. The collected plastics will go to Denton Plastics in Portland, which plans to recycle them into park benches, decking, flower pots, electronic components and other items.
