Can anyone recommend a good dentist for children? I would prefer one who is open to some alternative thinking, or at the least, who will not give me a hard time for not giving fluoride to my kids! They are 4 and 6 and have not yet seen a dentist. I can’t see any obvious decay but would like to get them in and familiar with seeing a dentist preventively. Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

I look forward to hearing replies to this question! I recently read “Cure Tooth Decay” by Ramiel Nagel and that is the book that turned me on to Traditional Foods and Weston Price. The book is available at the Eugene Library.

Re: [WAPFEugene] Dentist for Children

My daughter has an appointment in the next month to see Mark Stapleton 736-5525.  His practice specializes in children.  He seems pretty progressive :  relaxing child-friendly environment, Xylitol gum for sell cheap in the waiting room, and he didn’t freak out when I told him my 5-year old still sucks her fingers.  He seemed to also balance the emotional component to finger-sucking.  Give them a call, then go visit the office.  I toured the entire place, then chatted with Mark for 10 minutes.  Nice guy and he’s a parent, too, with a 3 year old son.

Rebeca, I have had fantastic luck with Dr. Ford by Valley River Mall. He is great with my 3 kids and I love his assistants. He may not be alternative but my kids love going to the dentist. My son had major decay when we started when
he was 4. He is now 15 and he, or my 2 younger girls have zero cavities. He isn’t the kind that recommends braces without a real need. I would love it if you would tell him I refered him.

Re: Dentist for Children

I’ve heard good things about Dr. Kimberly Tustin at Cascade Dental, also near Valley River Center. Their phone number is 344-6058. Also, Dr. Don Dexter in S. Eugene on Willamette Street – 485-6655. He actually knows who Weston A. Price
is!

Local Dentist?

Does anyone have a dentist they would recommend? I’ve never taken my kids, and my oldest is about to turn 8. I think he might have a cavity. Obviously I’d like to go to someone who isn’t going to push flouride, sealants, etc. too hard. I
just don’t want my choices to be questioned at every turn, and it seems like in Eugene there must be some more naturally minded dentists.
Thanks in advance,
Rebeca

I have appreciated Martin Bumstead on Hilyard.  He’s very pretty dang openminded, willing to humor me and do things my way, and willing/able to do certain procedures that every other dentist wants to farm out to specialists.

Robert Whicker

More expensive, but worth it in my opinion.

Donald Dexter is good. He is native american and incorporates those values into his practice. He has mentioned being interested in herbal approaches too and has organic and green dentistry info on his site. http://www.drdexter.com/

Are you familiar with the book “Cure Tooth Decay” by Ramiel Nagel? It is available at the Eugene Public Library. That is the book that turned me on to traditional foods. I would highly recommend it.

A good friend of mine is on the Oregon Health Plan and so is limited in her choice of dentists. These are covered by her insurance and she’s hoping one of them will be a high quality, kid-friendly choice for her kids. Anyone know anything about any of these dentists?
Thanks,
Cindy

My kids didn’t like Dr. Feldmanis, but they and I did like Dr. English. They were close to 20 at the time though. I don’t know about younger kids and I don’t know anything about the other two dentists.

Hi Cindy i have no idea but i have been meaning to post myself i have a couple of people interested in more open minded MD’s who are on OHP. One is sort of getting comments from her pedia nurses for not vaccing. One has gone as far as
threatening to call children services on her if she does not start vaccing. This friend wants to find another doc fast to avoid anymore harassment but is on OHP as well. Can anyone recommend an OHP doc?
