Fun With Fermentation this Saturday!

Hi all,

Hope you enjoyed the snow!  I’ve been snowed in without internet (or hot running water) for the past week.  Still had a nice vacation at home.

The Eugene Chapter is planning to attend the 8th annual Fun with Fermentation Festival this Saturday, January 14th, 2017, and we are calling on you to help.  We need some more volunteers.  Can you spare an hour or two to set up or staff our booth?  We can use people with all levels of skill and familiarity with WAPF principles.

Can you do any of these tasks? (pick one or more):

  • Carry boxes?
  • Set information out on the table?
  • Smile at people who come up?
  • Talk with people about the Weston A. Price Foundation principles?
  • Refer people to our website?
  • Pack boxes and load them back into the car?

If so, we need you!  Volunteers get in free, and its a lot of fun!

For more details about the event see: https://www.evensi.us/8th-annual-fun-with-fermentation-festival-lane-community/190310745

Contact me ASAP to let me know if I can count on you.

Thanks!

Lisa

October 8th: The Vaccine Friendly Plan

This comes to us from a local vaccine-choice activist.  It is not a WAPF event, and I do not have any additional information.  We include it here as a service to our members.

Oregonians For Medical Freedom hosts a discussion and a Q&A with Dr. Paul Thomas and Jennifer Margulis PhD, authors of The Vaccine-Friendly Plan:  Dr. Paul’s Safe and Effective Approach to Immunity and Health – from Pregnancy Through Your Child’s Teen Years

Saturday, October 8th at 3:00pm

315 Broadway, Eugene, OR 97401
Free to the public

More detailed info:

Oregonians for Medical Freedom hosts authors of New Vaccine-Friendly Plan Guide for Families

Acclaimed Portland pediatrician Paul Thomas is Ivy League educated and staunchly pro-vaccine.  He is also pro-science, and thinks parents should be wary of a one-size-fits-all approach that doesn’t take into account differences of patients in terms of medical history, toxin exposure, and timing of vaccines.  Oregonians for Medical Freedom hosts Thomas, together with co-author, award-winning investigative journalist Dr. Jennifer Margulis, to discuss their new book, The Vaccine Friendly Plan, and share research-based answers for families with questions.  Saturday, October 8th 3:00pm at Pure Life Chiropractic, 315 Broadway, Eugene, 97401.  The event is free to the public.

Paul presents his proven approach to protecting childhood health: a new vaccine schedule that that limits over-exposure to the harmful neurotoxins known to be in some vaccines without compromising community immunity.

What I find most compelling about Dr. Paul’s practice is this:  The national average of children diagnosed to have Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), according to the CDC, is 1/68.  Doctor Thomas has over 1,000 patients who follow his vaccine-friendly plan and none of them have ASD.  He has over 200 patients that are unvaccinated and none of them have ASD.  He has about 900 patients who were vaccinated according to the CDC guidelines and 15 of them have ASD, that’s about 1/60.

Based on the astounding results from his pediatric practice, as well as data from other credible and scientifically-minded medical doctors, Dr. Paul’s vaccine-friendly protocol gives parents:

  • Recommendations for a healthy pregnancy and childbirth such as his no-Tylenol rule for both expectant moms and infants
  • A slower, evidence-based vaccine schedule that skips some vaccines, and spreads out the associated neurotoxin exposure of others
  •  Advice about how to have an open conversation with health care providers when you have concerns, and how best to advocate for your child
  • How caregivers can communicate to educators when adopting a modified vaccination schedule, especially at registration and back-to-school times
  • A commonsense approach to common illnesses throughout the school year
  • Simple tips and tricks for healthy eating and toxin-free living at any age

An empowering roadmap for first-timers and veteran parents alike, THE VACCINE-FRIENDLY PLAN gives caregivers the information they need to understand both the benefits and the risks of some of the most important decisions they will make for their family.

Physics of Bacteria

This comes to us from one of our local Eugene Chapter volunteers.  It is not a WAPF event, but we thought it might be interesting to local members.  Many of us have put a lot of work into feeding our bacteria to try to support a healthy innerecosystem.  Now lets go hear what a UO professor who studies bacteria has to say:

Why Do Bacteria Care About Physics?

With Raghu Parthasarathy, PhD, Associate Professor of Physics at the University of Oregon

Doors open @ 5PM | $5 Suggested Donation

Each of our bodies is home to trillions of microbes, mostly resident in our digestive tract, that form a complex ecosystem whose structure and dynamics remain largely mysterious.

How do bacteria grow, compete, and cooperate in the turbulent environment of the gut? How can the physical structures that microbes form influence their success? How can we develop instruments and experiments that allow us to explore the intestinal microbiota?

In this talk, Physics professor Raghuveer Parthasarathy will describe his lab’s efforts to develop and use microscopy methods to examine microbial communities inside zebrafish, a model organism that makes possible insights into the inner workings of the gut….

VOTE NOW: GMOs are ugly!

This comes to us from Occupy Monsanto.  Help raise GMO awareness by voting for the Fishy Sugar Beet car in the ugliest car contest (I think it is kinda beautiful, and would much rather ride in it than some of the others, but voted for it as ugliest):

We all know that GMOs are ugly… But just how ugly are they?

We were just informed by our friends at the Are We Eating Fishy Food? campaign that Fishy Sugar Beet was nominated for CarTalk’s “Ugliest Car” contest.

Let’s hijack the vote and tell the world just how ugly GMOs really are! If we win, we’ll interject a discussion about GMO, GMO labeling, and GMO ethanol into a nationally syndicated radio show about cars.

Voting will only take 15 seconds of your time, so scroll down & vote for #8:

The other cars are pretty awesome, but don’t vote for them!

Hi!!

This is just a quick reminder that Tim Wightman is headed out here the weekend of September 7th and 8th..

Same seminar each day, so you only need to attend one.

Also – please forward this to anyone you think might be interested – consumer, producer, or someone who wants to get a cow in the future.

Registration is limited to the first 25 to sign up.  Click on this link to register: http://www.rawmilkpro.com/products-page

After clicking on the link above, select either date and click on “Add to Cart” then check out.  Be sure to add dinner if you want to participate in the open forum.

Tim Wightman Seminar

9/7 at Deck Family Farms $55 – 10AM-3PM

9/8 at Champoeg Creamery $55 – 10AM-3PM

Each event followed by a Master Mind Q and A dinner with Tim, $25

Space is limited to the first 25 people to sign up at each event to maximize learning.

  • First 1.5 hours will be reviewing proper milking and cleaning procedures and equipment

Even if you attended the March session at Champoeg Creamery you will still learn from this review.  I have heard from many of you (and me) since then clarifying and trying to remember what Tim presented.  Studies show we need to hear things as many as 5-7 times for it to sink in, this review will be well worth your time.  I know I am still learning MANY new things at each event!

We will discuss how to prepare your dairy animals to transition to winter feed and manage your pastures through the winter and how to properly prepare them for next spring.  Walk the pastures with Tim explaining the various grasses and heights and nutritional values as the season changes

  • Discussion of fertilizers and soil amendments for animal health and quality milk.
  • If anyone wants to conduct a forage and soil test and bring your results, Tim will analyze them with the group.
  •  Learn the proper nutrition and minerals for your cows and goats.
  • Understand what a standard plate count & coliform count is, where to collect them and how to read them.
  • Your questions and concerns as the discussion develops.

Time: 10 AM-3 PM Bring Your Lunch

Mastermind Q&A dinner with Tim $25 4-6 PM after each event.

I’m looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new producers! We always learn tons from each other!!

xx
